A nominal categorical variable is one where the values do not represent any relative ordering in the data. All text fields have to be categorical and numeric fields can be categorical, depending on how the data has been coded.
Tiberius counts the number of distinct values for each variable and if this is below a set threshold then there is the option to then make them categorical. This threshold is set in the 'options menu' on the main Tiberius toolbar.
